Pakistan has launched its first-ever tourism channel “Discover Pakistan” that will project the country’s soft image to national and well as to the international audience.

The launch of a TV channel specifically for the promotion of the positive image of Pakistan had reportedly been in the works since 2017. The channel went live on March 20, 2021. For about four years, the social media page of Discover Pakistan on Facebook has been playing a vital role in displaying the beauty, culture and festivals of the country to the world

DISCOVER PAKISTAN – PAKISTAN’S FIRST TOURISM CHANNEL

Discover Pakistan is the first and only tourism specific TV channel launched by the country. The vision behind launching the tourism channel is to show different places in Pakistan and different cultures and traditions that co-exist peacefully on an international platform. The channel will also help promote a softer image of the country as well as its people and project Pakistanis as a tourist-friendly nation.

Over the past decade, Pakistan has hosted many international vloggers who, after witnessing diverse cultures, traditions, people’s friendliness and facilities for international tourists, have made documentaries and travelogues to let the world know how different the South Asian country is from its negative portrayal in the mainstream media.

Discover Pakistan is a satellite TV channel that is broadcasting the best and most popular tourists’ sites in the country in a high definition quality. The local cable operators have also been urged to begin broadcasting the channel to create awareness about the wonderful land of Pakistan, its festivals and rich history among the country’s own residents. 

CONTENT CATEGORIES OF DISCOVER PAKISTAN

The channel will focus on amplifying the government’s efforts to revive tourism in Pakistan by broadcasting the country’s natural wonders, scenic beauty of northern areas and historical sites. This will all be accomplished by using a blend of original documentaries, travel diaries and a morning show. In addition to these, the channel will cover tourism-related events such as jeep rallies and winter sports festivals being held in different areas.

The morning show will bring a mix of segments, including one in which accomplishments of Pakistanis will be discussed to bring their achievements to the daylight and suggestions to explore the country will also be made.

ABOUT DISCOVER PAKISTAN ONLINE APP

The newly-launched tourism channel is available on television and also streams on its website. To cater to the mass national and international audience, the platform has also launched its online application for both android and iOS users. The smartphone users will be able to enjoy live streaming, popular shows, documentaries and engage with the tourist community. 

One of the most exciting features of this online application is that the users can make their profile and upload their content (images and videos) and share them with the world. There is another tab on the application where you can also buy equipment for your next trip.

EFFORTS TO BOOST TOURISM IN PAKISTAN

Since 2019, many efforts have been made to increase tourism in Pakistan. Brand Pakistan is one of the projects launched by the Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) to promote tourism in the country. The aim of this project was to showcase Pakistan to the world as a tourist-friendly country where they can expect the best hospitality. 

It is because of these efforts made by the Government of Pakistan, the country made it to the list of 10 under-the-radar tourist destinations for 2020 and topped Conde Nast Traveller’s list for Best Holiday Destination for 2020. The premier has emphasized developing and improving the tourism sector of the country which can contribute significantly to the economic growth of Pakistan. 

It is important that tourists feel safe in the country and facilitated by the government. To ensure that, the government has decided to provide basic communication services and high-speed internet facility in top tourist destinations including Saiful Malook Lake, Kumrat Valley and Babusar.
