2026 World Cup Entry Requirements: US, Canada & Mexico Guide

The Ultimate 2026 World Cup Border Guide: US, Canada & Mexico

Crucial Update (April 2026): Having a match ticket does not guarantee entry. You must have a valid ESTA, eTA, or Visa before you head to the airport.

Step 1: The "FIFA PASS" (Priority for Visa Holders)

If you are from a country that requires a full B1/B2 Visitor Visa (e.g., Brazil, Morocco, Ghana), the wait times are peaking. FIFA has launched the FIFA PASS to help.

  • How to get it: Log in to your FIFA.com ticket portal.

  • The Opt-In: Submit the "FIFA PASS Opt-in Form." You will receive a unique Key.

  • The Appointment: When filling out your U.S. Visa application (DS-160), select "Yes" when asked if you are a ticket holder.

  • The Benefit: If your data matches, you get access to Priority Interview Slots that are hidden from the general public.

🇺🇸 Entering the United States

Most fans will fall into two categories: ESTA or B1/B2 Visa.

Option A: The ESTA (Visa Waiver)

  • Who: Citizens of 42 countries (UK, Spain, France, Germany, Japan, etc.).

  • Validity: 2 years (or until passport expires).

  • Stay: Up to 90 days.

  • Rule: You must have a biometric passport. If you’ve visited Cuba (after Jan 2021), Iran, or Iraq, you are likely ineligible for ESTA and must apply for a B1/B2 visa.

Option B: The B1/B2 Visitor Visa

  • Who: Everyone else.

  • The Process: 1. Complete Form DS-160 online. 2. Pay the $185 USD fee. 3. Use your FIFA PASS Key to book a priority interview. 4. Bring proof of "strong ties" to your home country (job letter, bank statements).

🇨🇦 Entering Canada

Canada is hosting matches in Toronto and Vancouver. Their system is separate from the US.

  • Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA): Required for visa-exempt travelers arriving by air. It costs $7 CAD and is usually approved in minutes.

  • Visitor Visa: If you aren't visa-exempt, you need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV).

  • The "US Visa" Shortcut: If you hold a valid US Nonimmigrant Visa, you may be eligible for a simplified Canadian eTA even if your nationality usually requires a full visa. Check the IRCC website for the latest April 2026 "World Cup Expansion" rules.

🇲🇽 Entering Mexico

Mexico offers the most flexible stay (up to 180 days), but documentation is still mandatory.

  • The FMM (Tourist Card): Every fan needs a Forma Migratoria Múltiple. You can get this on the plane or online. New for 2026: If entering by land from the US (e.g., driving to Monterrey), you must print your FMM and get it stamped at the border office.

  • Visa-Free Entry: If you have a valid US, Canadian, or Schengen Visa, you can enter Mexico for the World Cup without a separate Mexican visa, regardless of your nationality.

  • E-Visa: Mexico has introduced an Electronic Visa for certain air travelers in 2026. Check the "Mi Consulado" portal before booking.

🛑 3 Things That Will Get You Rejected at the Border

  1. Passport Expiry: Your passport must be valid for 6 months beyond your departure date.

  2. The "Cuba" Trap: If you visited Cuba recently, your ESTA will be denied at the gate. You need a B1/B2 visa.

  3. Missing "Onward Travel": Border agents in all three countries may ask for proof of your flight out of the region.
